Episode 11: Kerstin Rock on smart power market design

Today, we talk with Kerstin Rock. She was and raised in Germany but now lives in Portland, Oregon. An economist by training, she’s fascinated by the use and design of marketplaces.

Over the past 15 years, she’s worked in and around the electric utility market. She currently works at PacifiCorp, a large utility in the western US in their Energy Supply Group, which is responsible for the management of all generation resources, grid management and wholesale power trading.

Prior to that, Kerstin was the head of operations at LO3 Energy, a software startup focused on developing green local energy marketplaces in Denmark, the UK, Japan, Australia and the US.

She was hired, incidentally, and onboarded at PacifiCorp in the middle of Covid and only met her first colleagues the day before our recording!
